The Seven "I Am" Statements of Jesus
Seven times in John's Gospel, Jesus describes himself with an "I am" statement — the same phrase God uses of himself in Exodus 3:14. Each one answers a different need: hunger, direction, belonging, mortality.
"I am the good shepherd"
The shepherd who lays down his life for the sheep, unlike a hired hand.
"I am the way, the truth, and the life"
Jesus's answer when Thomas asks how to know the way to the Father.
